Minimalism, minimalism, minimalism is one thing I happen to be quite a sucker for, and this is truly minimalist. Following further in the footsteps (in some respects) of Mi Ami, or later Black Dice/Eric Copeland, in entirely deconstructing electronica - or more dance-implying music - into its absolute bare elements is Blissed Out. In this live recording, the band sets the stage to go in nearly any direction they might feel from that evening on out, which is precisely why I think this is an act to keep an eye on. Dissolved into outrageous scarcity, entire ambiance at moments and then rebuilding back into tribally-rooted and completely trance-inducing dance pieces at others; this release shows the span that Blissed Out is capable of covering. Again this is a proper experiment in deconstruction; now we’ll get see what they reconstructed from all the pieces laid out in front of them, and that’s very exciting.
